Cost ranges: multi-hood systems (vendor-reported)
Once a kitchen has two or more hoods, the “what does a clean cost?” question gets harder. Hood count, fan count, duct length, and how many visits it takes all matter more than the menu. This page collects the multi-hood per-visit ranges vendors publish on their own sites, with every figure tied to a named source and the market it describes. If your city isn’t covered by a row, treat regional pricing as Unknown and get local walk-through quotes. For single hoods see single-hood cost ranges; for how a multi-hood bid should be built see multi-hood pricing.
Vendor-reported multi-hood ranges (cite the source)
| Source (public page) | What they publish for multi-hood systems | Market they describe | Elsewhere |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qwick Solutions — 2026 cost guide | National: 3–5 hoods ~$600–$1,000; 6–10 hoods ~$1,000–$1,500; 10+ hoods custom. DMV multi-hood line, moderate volume, standard access: ~$700–$1,500. | National baseline + DC / Maryland / Virginia | Regional: Unknown |
| Facilitec Southwest — 2026 NFPA 96 guide | Multi-hood high-volume kitchen, casino resort, hospital cafeteria: $1,000–$3,500+ per visit (monthly to quarterly). University dining, stadium concession, industrial cafeteria: custom pricing. | TX, OK, LA, NM, AR footprint | Regional: Unknown |
| Bryan Exhaust Service Tools — how to price jobs | High-volume / multi-hood / heavy frying: $600–$1,500. Large or complex (multi-hood, solid fuel, 24-hour, hospital): $1,200–$3,500+. Notes NYC / LA jobs routinely $1,200–$2,500. | Industry pricing article written for contractors | Regional: Unknown |
| Total Fire Protection — 2026 cost report | Multiple hoods (2–4): $800–$1,500. Large system (5+ hoods): $1,500–$2,500. Says it aggregated 47 providers. | NYC / Long Island / Northern NJ tri-state survey | Regional: Unknown |
| Empire Hoods — pricing page | 3–4 hoods: $500–$800. 5+ hoods (banquet, institutional, food court): $800–$1,200+. Says each added hood adds roughly $150–$250. | New York City | Regional: Unknown |
Two NYC-area sources disagree by several hundred dollars for similar hood counts. We publish both rather than averaging them. We don’t invent a “national average” for multi-hood kitchens, and we don’t have any pricing partnerships. If a source page changes, check it again before you budget.
Why multi-hood numbers spread so widely
- Hood count vs fan count: Four hoods on one fan and one duct riser is a different job from four hoods on four fans. Ask every vendor to quote per exhaust system, not just per canopy.
- Mixed cooking volume: A charbroil line next to a steam/oven line may need different cadences. If one price assumes everything gets cleaned every visit, ask whether the lighter hoods can follow their own inspection frequency.
- One night or several: Banquet and institutional kitchens may need multi-session scheduling. Each extra night means setup, travel, and sometimes an after-hours premium again.
- Bundled pricing: Facilitec and Service-Tech both say multi-hood facilities often qualify for bundled pricing, and recurring schedules get lower per-visit rates. Get the bundle in writing.
- Scope creep at the top end: Some “5+ hood” tiers include rooftop containment or fan degreasing and some don’t. Compare scope line by line using comparing 3 local quotes.
Annual budget math (use your own quotes)
| Example per-visit quote | Cadence | Visits / yr | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| $900 (a number inside the cited 3–5 hood bands) | Quarterly | 4 | $3,600 |
| $1,500 (top of the cited 6–10 hood band) | Quarterly | 4 | $6,000 |
| $1,200 (inside the cited large / complex bands) | Monthly | 12 | $14,400 |
The rows above are arithmetic on example numbers, not sourced prices. Put your real quotes in, and remember that a multi-hood kitchen with mixed cooking volume may not need every hood on the tightest cadence.
Before you compare multi-hood bids
- Inventory sheet: Hood count, linear feet per hood, fan count, and which hood feeds which fan
- Cooking type per hood: Fryer, char, wok, solid fuel, or oven/steam
- Access: Roof path, floors, freight elevator, missing panels, and hinge kits
- Session plan: One night or several, and whether after-hours is priced per night
- Per-system line items: Ask for each hood/fan priced separately on the quote
- Documentation: One report and label per system, with photos for each canopy
Good use of these bands
- Setting a first budget envelope before an RFP
- Catching a 4-hood bid priced like a single hood (often canopy-only)
- Asking why one bid is double the others for the same inventory
Misuse to avoid
- Applying a NYC or DMV band to an uncited city as fact
- Comparing per-canopy prices to per-system prices
- Treating “5+ hoods” as one tier for a 12-outlet hotel or hospital
Who it’s for / not for
- For: full-service restaurants with two or more hoods, hotel and banquet kitchens, multi-line commissaries, and facilities managers building an annual exhaust budget or RFP
- Not for: single-hood kitchens (see the single-hood page), stadium or hospital-scale custom systems that need a walk-through, or anyone looking for a quote

Next step
Build a one-page inventory with hoods, fans, duct runs, and cooking type per hood. Send the same sheet to three local vendors and ask for per-system line items. Compare the bids against the sourced bands above, and if your metro isn’t named in a source row, leave regional pricing as Unknown until the bids come back.
